New Blog Entry
Hey! I'm Genny, the Drama Queen for the 2008-2009 RAZE campaign. Thanks for reading my first blog post :-)
When I first heard of the auditions for the commercial, I thought, "Oh, wow, cool - some more acting experience for the real world." But as I thought more about it, I realized that a lot of actors in the "real world" are caught on film smoking. They make it seem like it's just something performers do - like it came with the job Description or something.
This bothers me. A lot. There are ways to stay skinny without poisoning your body and ruining your health, like exercising and eating healthy, but smoking just looks so...easy. So quick. Put a stick in your mouth, light it, and viola - you won't gain a pound!
Now, I don't know about you, but I honestly can't wait to see when they decide to quit. When their teeth fall out? When they get enough wrinkles to look five times their age? When they stop looking pretty enough for film? Or when something worse happens, like they get cancer?
Not to mention the horrible message it sends out to their younger fan base. "Oh, look at me, all pretty and successful! And I smoke, too!" No wonder I see so many kids standing outside my school in the morning, surrounded by clouds of cigarette smoke - they think that it's okay, because their celebrity role models do it.
And it's not just some stage they grow out of, either. Many of my friends who graduated and who are now in college are not only dedicated actors in their school, but dedicated smokers as well. It really seems ridiculous, actually, especially when they keep trying out for musicals. They're ruining their voices as well as their health and looks. All three of these things are extremely important for an aspiring actor.
Well, anyways, when I got into the commercial, I was soooo excited. And when I found out that I'd be playing an actor, I was ecstatic. Now was my chance to show that actors don't need to smoke to look good. And with the help of makeup, direction, and an awesome wardrobe, I think I succeeded
:-)
